Happy Valentines from your Galentines

photo 1 (1)

“Maybe if I use my eggs to prop up my bacon-hearts it will look more like it did on Pinterest,” I thought to myself.

Just wanted to wish all of you a very happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope each one of you gets to spend it with someone you love, whether that be your significant other, your family, your room-mates, your dog, Bob Costas… the list goes on.

Because the truth of the matter is that there are a whole lot of awesome people out there worth loving (yay!), and even though this day is kind of silly/trite/commercialized, it can remind us of this life affirming fact.

We Cabana-ites were lucky enough to share a V-Day breakfast this morning, with pink pancakes and bacon-hearts, which turned out nothing like the ones on that lie-of-a-website Pinterest, but I mean it was bacon so whatever.

Later today we will be making the road-trip to Houston where we will spend time with two of our most consuming loves: the Jone’s Family and Torchy’s.

And to top it off on this cavity-inducing post, here is a pic of my Granddad with a Valentine’s card from his wife of 51-years, the infamous Grammy! They make me “Happy Happy Happy.”

Bucket o’ Bread

 20140126-220116.jpg

In order to appear less like a couple, Kyra and I joined up with our five fellow senior ladies to bask in our last few days/weeks of true caloric freedom, checking off another bucket lister at The Little Village.

The main attraction: BREAD.

And MORE BREAD.

We also had some entrees in there somewhere, but as I told Kyra before heading downto(w)n, it’s hard to remember anything else on the menu because… bread.

This braided decadency of dough, topped with parmesan cheese crumbles and roasted garlic is what a carb-lover’s dreams are made of.

Seriously, Kyra dreamed about it.

Thanks to a great group of senior Tigirls for for a fun evening. I loaf you all.

P.S. Alternative titles for this post consisted of “Bread Babes” and/or “Boobs and Bread.” Take that as you wish.

P.P.S. Everyone should google “bread puns” as soon as humanly possible. HI-larious.

P.P. S. S. Parker.

Weekend Update: Lolla-Style

While The Man Repeller congregated to see Queen Bey this weekend in New York.

A much less public, but much more repellant blogger ( me) was lucky enough to be in an even better American city (IMHO) at the three most glorious days in the music world ( again IMHO)– Lollapalooza

Not that I wouldn’t sell my soul to see Beyonce, but this weekend was just absolutely spectacular.

Taking in the sweet sounds of Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sande, Alt-J, Phoenix, The Killers, Heartless Bastards, Tegan and Sara, Lana Del Rey, and Mumford and Sons all within a 72 hour time span was not only completely exhausting, but more importantly the most surreal experience of my life.

I think the words that were most frequently uttered from my lips were

“This is not real,” or the less eloquently put, “OH MYYYY GOSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”

One might also consider the incoherent blubbering of emotion as I cried without tears through roughly 15% of the time at the festival into this hypothesis, but I’m going to go ahead and limit my scope at OMG.

A musical analysis of the weekend will be coming tomorrow after I recollect my thoughts and attempt to start acting like a functioning human being that is capable of existing outside the gates of Grant Park.

A “fun analysis” will never be written because, well, you just had to be there.

What I will be providing now are some pictures to provide a teensy idea of what Lolla is all about.

Or if you are the only person who reads my blog (Kyra) the photos are here so that we can laugh simultaneously from our beds in different cities.

*And a super special shout-out to the Jones family. Y’all make my heart sing.

BEOW BEOW BEOW BEOW BEEEOOOWWWWW*

J&K Wedding

20130714-152235.jpg

Last night I had the pleasure of celebrating the marriage of the most perfect couple I know down in the Big Easy.

The bride, who is one of my biggest role models, was absolutely stunning and the wonderfully handsome-future doctor-groom was as happy as he could be.

Though it wasn’t an extended stay ( me and my “date” had to get back to Baton Rouge for an early morning swim meet) I always love being in New Orleans, eating some great food and simply enjoying the overflow of Louisiana culture.

The wedding took place last week in Estonia , the bride’s home country. And let me tell ya’ the photos are just beautiful.

Last night’s celebration was just that, a celebration, for the less beautiful American population who could not travel for the actual wedding. It was held at the pavilion at the Omni Hotel was the perfect setting for the intimate gathering that allowed me to catch up with several old friends and witness my first real-life wedding crasher. All in all it was another great evening in the Nola with even better friends.

I’m so happy to have been able to celebrate this couple. Congrats J&K!

Weekend Update: Fam’s All Here

20130624-144108.jpg

It’s funny how things work out.

Last week I wrote about my two families: my biological one and my Tiger one.

Four days later the latter showed up in Houston, to surprise our mutual family member/ my best friend Kyra for her birthday. The great thing about family is that they’re family no matter what the setting. Though we were miles away from our normal habitat, nothing changed within my Tiger family. I guess when people know you and you know them, at your/their truest of self, the environment doesn’t make a difference. They continue being them and you continue being you. There are no charades or fronts, no need to impress, just family.

This family of mine and I had a great time this weekend just hanging out like we always do. Above is our family pic.

It’s going over the mantel.
